This is the 3rd in a series of Ancestor stories I will post from my book Missed Opportunities, Journeys to my Ancestors
When Thomas first appeared, he told me that he had a place, a role in his community. There was something about a fence becoming a big issue because it was a boundary between properties. It took a long time to resolve the issue. Thomas became a voice and a mediator. He became known for helping others with their situations. He told me that it made him happy to be able to help people.
Several days later, Thomas emerged from the group of Ancestors and said that there was more to his story. I heard the word “stowaway.” He went on to explain that he was a stowaway in the cargo of a ship. It was a very difficult journey because of the lack of food. He almost didn’t make it. “Someone helped me, out of the goodness of her heart.” Then he said “I married her.” Thomas told me that her love kept him alive.
I told Thomas that he had an enormous amount of courage to do what he did and that I honor him immensely!
